For the week of 7 November 2016, four secondary three students from CHIJ Toa Payoh were attached to the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Consumer Co-operative Society Limited (“NP Co-op”) for a one-week work attachment programme. The students spent the week learning about NP Co-op, and the different store functions at each of the co-op’s outlets.

During their time on campus, the students shared that they gained many experiences. The students picked up skill-sets such as stock-taking and cashiering and they gained new insights about themselves. One of the students noted that a learning experience for her was being able to work with colleagues that were more senior than her. She stated that as a secondary school student, working in groups was a rare occurrence. She felt that the experience was new and useful to her.

We hope that the students found the work attachment programme meaningful and educational, and that the experiences they received would provide them with more information to guide them in making future decisions relating to their education and future careers.

We enjoyed hosting the students from CHIJ Toa Payoh, and we look forward to future opportunities to further engage youth in education and career guidance activities.
